We are living through uncertain and unprecedented times. How do we get through another day of quarantine? How do we continue homeschooling our kids? (More on that later!) Are we in a science fiction movie? What about the economy? As a therapist, these are all things I have heard from clients who feel as if they are at the end of their rope! It is highly important to organize your life and that of your family! Everyone needs a schedule! Here are some concrete tips to help fight or prevent anxiety, depression, and grief. Yes, grief! We mourn the loss of our former life!

  1. Adhere to a schedule- at the very minimum, go to bed and get up at the same time each day.
  2. Make a meal schedule and allow kids to help by setting the table, stirring a dish, or doing the dishes.
  3. Shower each day.
  4. Limit the news and make sure the reporters are credible.
  5. Try to get some exercise, even just a walk around the block!
  6. Take a moment for yourself each day.
  7. Keep a gratitude journal, it changes negative thought patterns!
  8. Stay connected to others. Zoom is awesome for group chats.
  9. Keep talking to your therapist or physician. Telemedicine really works.
  10. Remember, it’s the little things, in life, that become the big things!
  11. We will get through this together, our lives will normalize again. Keep the hope and keep in touch!
